Metering Systems Engineer £45,000 Maidstone Join a pioneering team delivering advanced energy measurement and data solutions across the UK’s power infrastructure. This role focuses on the deployment and commissioning of high-precision metering technologies used in transmission networks, including offshore installations. Location & Travel for Metering Systems Engineer • Based in Maidstone with regular travel to remote and offshore sites across the UK and occasionally overseas. • Flexibility and willingness to work away from home are essential. Key Responsibilities for Metering Systems Engineer • Lead the setup and activation of energy metering systems at high-voltage substations and remote facilities. • Carry out system integration and acceptance testing, including customer-witnessed procedures. • Troubleshoot electrical, data, and communication faults using diagnostic tools and portable equipment. • Ensure all installed systems comply with safety regulations and site-specific protocols. • Manage technical documentation including risk assessments, commissioning records, and site reports. • Support project delivery by tracking progress and collaborating with design, construction, and financial teams. • Maintain high standards of technical quality across all aspects of the work. Ideal Candidate Profile for Metering Systems Engineer • Strong analytical mindset with a hands-on approach to engineering challenges. • Excellent communication and coordination skills. • Full UK driving licence is mandatory. Required Skills & Experience • Practical experience with current transformer (CT) metering systems across low and high voltage networks. • Familiarity with electrical instrumentation and control systems, particularly in energy monitoring. • Understanding of transmission and distribution networks within the power sector. • Competence in configuring network devices (switches, routers) and working with SCADA systems. • Knowledge of communication protocols such as Modbus, MQTT, IEC61850, DNP3, DLMS. • Awareness of electrical safety procedures and safe systems of work. Desirable Qualifications • Degree or HND in electrical or systems engineering. • Experience with high-accuracy metering standards (e.g., CoP1, CoP2). • Certifications such as BS 7671 (17th/18th Edition), EUSR, CCNSG, National Grid Persons, GWO, HUET.
